President's Welcome

2008-2009

Thank you for visiting the web site of The Junior League of Syracuse.

I want to extend a special welcome to you on behalf of our more than 350 members who live, work and serve in the Central New York community.

The Junior League of Syracuse (JLS) is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.

Since its inception in 1920, the JLS has been a driving force behind the kinds of initiatives and institutions that make the CNY community a more appealing place to live. The JLS has made a difference in the care of the elderly, family literacy, historic preservation, museums, women’s and children’s protective services, leadership development and more. Some of the organizations the JLS has helped to start or support include the MOST, Erie Canal Museum and Everson Museums, Vera House, Home Aides, McMahon Ryan Child Advocacy Site, Chadwick’s Residence and McKinley-Brighton School.

The JLS is a member of the Association of Junior Leagues International (AJLI) an organization of over 170,000 members in 293 leagues located in the United States, Canada, Mexico and the United Kingdom.

Our membership is open to all women who possess an interest in and a commitment to voluntarism. We hope you find the information you need on our website, whether it is learning about the community programs we support, attending our Holiday Shoppes fundraiser or becoming a member.

We appreciate your interest in the Junior League of Syracuse and thank you for supporting our efforts to build better communities!

Best regards,

Wendy Isome
