About the Junior League of Syracuse

The Junior League of Syracuse (JLS) is one of 293 leagues in the United States, Canada, Mexico and the United Kingdom, with a total membership of over 170,000 women. This collective group is a powerful force for change. Since our founding in 1920, the JLS has been creating significant change in the Central New York Community. Our organization has become a recognized leader for developing and supporting projects that provide meaningful programs for women, children and families.

The power of the JLS is fueled by the desire of our volunteers to positively impact our community. Throughout our history, our members have amassed hundreds of thousands of volunteer hours and contributed hundreds of thousands of dollars to organizations that have relied on the Junior League of Syracuse for support during their inception, ongoing maintenance of programs and in difficult times. The JLS’s training opportunities, both formal and experiential, help members develop skills that often lead to endeavors which extend beyond our organization’s bounds. It is, indeed, difficult to find an organization in the Syracuse area that has not benefited from the involvement of a JLS member.

We hope you will spend a few minutes browsing this site to acquaint yourself with the many new and ongoing projects of the JLS. These projects, coordinated by our more than 350 community-conscience members, play a significant role in enhancing the quality of life for women, children and families in CNY.

The Power of Association

Formed in 1921, the Association provides continuity and support, guidance and leadership development opportunities to 293 Junior Leagues in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and the United Kingdom. Through regional, national, and international meetings, comprehensive resources, customized consultations, League and member benefits, we add value to our member Leagues in their fulfillment of the Junior League Mission. We are governed by a 19-member Board of Directors, all of whom are members of the Junior Leagues in their communities. The Board is accountable to the Leagues for the development of goals that enhance Leagues' ability to fulfill the Junior League Mission. The Association's New York City-based staff, under the leadership of the Executive Director, provide services to Leagues that support the established goals.

AJLI is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization. All of our programs and activities are supported by League membership dues, foundation and corporate grants and other revenue-producing efforts.
